It’s been a bit of a Katie MacAlister couple of weeks on this site, which is mainly due to the light and easy-read nature of her books. Light My Fire is no different. Following on from You Slay Me and Fire Me Up, it follows Aisling Grey, Guardian, Wyvern’s Mate, Demon Lord and general magnet for trouble. Like the previous two, Aisling spends the novel being chased by various bad guys as she falls in and out of every possible dilemma.

Her relationship with Drake is, as usual, tumultuous, but he seems to be growing a little less demanding and obnoxious as Aisling bargains for a little independence. Aisling also has to deal with demons, demon lords, other dragons trying to kill her, a horde of maniacal imps, not to mention the mischief her own demon, Jim, gets up to. This makes for a fast-paced read, enlivened by MacAlister’s characteristic humour. We have the usual band of supporting characters such as my personal favourite: Rene, the mysterious French taxi driver with a penchant for turning up exactly when needed. We do find out a little more about his mystifying past in this novel, too!

As I’ve mentioned previously, Aisling is an engaging (if ditzy) heroine. Her antics are amusing, and MacAlister’s novels are a lot of fun. However, I might wait a while before approaching Holy Smokes, the fourth installment in the series.
